What actually IS a Snowglobe Tumbler?

What actually IS a Snowglobe Tumbler?

Right, let's start with the basics. What actually IS a Snowglobe Tumbler??

Do you remember the dome-shaped glass snowglobes that you'd often see at Christmas time? They looked like a glass bubble on a little stand, with some sort of figurine inside it, and when you shook it up, a little 'snowstorm' was created? It made for a very pretty ornament - I used to gaze at mine for hours as a kid! I loved them so much that I started collecting them: a new one every year at Christmas, or from special trips like Disneyland or special holidays as souvenirs.

This is the only Snowglobe I have these days! All the rest are in tumbler form 🤭

Well, a Snowglobe Tumbler is essentially the exact same thing, the only difference is that the 'snowstorm' effect is made with glitter, not snow, and it is displayed inside a drinking vessel instead of a glass dome. A Snowglobe Tumbler is a practical item as well as a pretty-often collectible, sought after item.

Their eye-catching sparkle, along with their practicality (the fact that they provide a practival solution to an essential human need to stay hydrated), their ability to be made entirely unique - I truly believe that no two snowglobe tumblers are ever exactly the same - makes them hugely desirable to consumers. I have even experienced consumers purchasing snowglobe tumblers as a fashion accessory - almost giving them status, an extension of their personality.

How stinkin’ CUTE is this hummingbird design Snowglobe Tumbler?!

This particular Snowglobe Tumbler was made using The Little Isla Co ‘Poolside’ chunky glitter mix.

The tumblers (referred to as tumblers but generally speaking they look more like cups, in varying shapes and sizes and come with a lid and straw) are made from acrylic, and have an inner-wall and an outer-wall. This means that the actual cup you'll be drinking from will be smaller, fused together inside a slightly larger cup of the same shape, creating the gap between the two walls.

It is in this gap that the glitter, and the liquid solution is inserted, creating the same effect when shaken up as a regular glass snowglobe.

The end result?

A finished snowglobe, complete with vinyl and/or UVDTF decals (stands for UV Direct-to Film, it's just a technical term for a sticky transfer) can be personalised, custom, unique and all-round super pretty.

Many of my demonstration snowglobe tumblers are available for purchase here - these are snowglobe tumblers that I have made as tutorials and examples to showcase The Little Isla Co glitters. Take a look, they might give you some inspo on your own starting point. Or, if you'd like to purchase one for yourself you can do that too! I have priced these snowglobe tumblers significantly lower than I would if I was a full-time maker, so snap up a bargain while you can ;)

How would I go about making a snowglobe tumbler as a beginner?

If you want to start making snowglobe tumblers either as a hobby or as a potential business, you'll need to start with all the materials. Blank tumblers, snowglobe tumbler solution, glitter and UV resin are the absolute basics in order to make a snowglobe tumbler.

I have put together a Snowglobe Tumbler Starter Kit, to make starting this process sooo much easier for you. In my kit, every single material you need to make a snowglobe tumbler from start to finish is included (with most items having some leftover so you can use them again). You will also receive a detailed, step-by-step instructions document explaining simply how to make a snowglobe tumbler. It's kind of like having me with you, holding your hand for your first ever one ;)

And, last but by NO MEANS least, also included in the kit is an extensive supplier list. This is a list of all the materials you need to continue making snowglobe tumblers, including links AND discounts for many of the suppliers. All of the suppliers in this listed are trusted and recommended by me - I have only included suppliers that I have personally purchased from and recommend myself. Only the best make the list!

Its worth giving it a go! Trust yourself. You can find the kits here if you decide to go for it.
